We know Brotton

Understanding What Brotton Needs

Brotton's story is rooted in its ironstone mining past, the industry that shaped the village and its surrounding communities, including nearby Brickyard. Today, it functions mainly as a residential town, with most of its economy made up of micro-businesses and sole traders in retail, trades and personal services.

That shapes what local people and businesses actually need from us. With larger employers concentrated in nearby Skelton and Middlesbrough, many residents commute for work while relying on local services day-to-day, so we focus on practical digital skills and employability support that opens up real opportunities. That could be a first step into work or a career change.

  • Strong local demand for digital and employability skills, addressing key regional growth sectors.
  • Support for micro-businesses and sole traders, Brotton's most common type of employer
  • Close links with Freebrough Academy and the wider East Cleveland school community.

We're also proud to support Brotton's community beyond the classroom, including Hunley Golf Club, whose clifftop course and events bring visitors and business to the whole area.
